Abstract: Heat-sealing strength and hot-adhesive strength are two indicators for evaluating the sealing effect of heat-sealed parts of soft plastic packaging. In this paper, PE single-layer film is used as test sample, and the sample is separately tested by i-Thermotek 2400 heat sealing and hot-adhesive performance tester. The heat seal strength and hot tack strength were tested and the test results were compared. The results show that under the same heat sealing parameters, the hot tack strength of the sample is significantly lower than the heat seal strength, and the test values of both show a trend of increasing first and then decreasing with the increase of heat sealing temperature.

Key words: heat seal strength, hot tack strength, soft plastic packaging, heat sealing parameters, sealing effect

Soft plastic packaging materials are one of the main force in the packaging field. Most of them are sealed and packaged by the heat sealing process. Therefore, how the sealing effect of the heat sealing part directly affects the sealing performance of the packaging. The detection index reflecting the sealing strength of the heat-sealed part of the soft plastic packaging material is mainly the heat sealing strength and the hot bonding strength. The former refers to the bonding fastness between the heat sealing layer and the heat sealing layer after heat sealing, the latter The test is the bonding fastness between the heat seal layers before the heat seal portion is cooled. Domestic tests and research on heat seal strength are relatively early, and relevant test standards are issued earlier. For example, ZBY28004-1986 "Test method for heat sealing strength of plastic film packaging bags" and current QB/T 2358-1998 "plastic film" The test method for the heat-sealing strength of packaging bags, etc., and the research and testing of hot-adhesive strength are relatively late. The current relevant testing standards are mainly YY/T1433-2016 "The thermal sealing strength ( hot-adhesive strength ) test of medical device software packaging materials" method". In this paper, through the test of heat seal strength and hot tack strength, the similarities and differences between the test methods and test results of these two types of indicators are compared and analyzed.

2 , the test process

2.1 Heat seal strength test

(1) Eight specimens of 30 cm in length and 6 cm in width were randomly cut in the longitudinal direction of the material .

(2) Set the heat sealing time 1 s on the control software of the equipment , heat sealing pressure 290 KPa , heat sealing temperature 100 °C , take out 2 samples, stack the hot covers on both sides, according to the width of the sample and heat seal The knife is heat sealed in a parallel direction. The heat-sealing temperature was sequentially raised to 110 ° C , 115 ° C , and 120 ° C , and the remaining samples corresponding to the heat-sealing temperature were respectively heat-sealed according to the above method. Each heat-sealed sample was cut into three strips each having a width of 15 mm in the longitudinal direction of the sample .

(3) Take a sample and clamp it in the two fixtures of the equipment, set the test speed to 300 mm/min , start the test, and then clamp the other sample strips on the equipment after the test, and then heat seal the strength. test.

2.2 hot tack strength test

(1) 12 specimens with a width of 15 mm and a length of 35 cm were randomly cut in the longitudinal direction of the material .

(2) Set the delay time to 100 ms , the clamp speed to 1200 cm/min , the heat seal time to 1 s , the heat seal pressure to 290 KPa , and the heat seal temperature to 100 °C . Then, the sample is clamped on the heat sealing and hot-adhesive performance tester , and the test is started. After the device is heat-sealed, after the set delay time is reached, the hot-adhesive strength is tested according to the set speed. Take two samples for parallel testing. Subsequently, the heat-sealing temperature was sequentially raised to 110 ° C , 115 ° C , and 120 ° C , and the hot-adhesive strength of the three samples was tested at each temperature according to the above method .

3 , results and discussion

Comprehensive analysis, the heat sealing strength and the hot adhesion strength test process are basically the same during the whole test process, both of which are heat-sealed, and then the heat-sealed parts of the sample after the heat-sealing is broken. The difference lies in the time of testing the strength after heat sealing. The hot tack strength needs to be completed within a few seconds (or even 1 second) of the heat-sealed portion not cooled to room temperature. The test time points are different for the hot tack strength test value. The impact is greater. The heat seal strength is tested after the heat seal is cooled, and the test value is not affected by the time point selected by the test. Therefore, the hot-adhesive strength test must be heat-sealed—the test is performed in one go, and the middle can not be manipulated, intervened or interrupted. Otherwise, it is difficult to control the test time, and the heat seal and heat test of the heat seal strength test can be interrupted. In this test, by defining the delay time and the fixture speed, it is ensured that the hot tack strength test time of each sample is consistent.

The test results of the heat seal strength and hot tack strength of the tested samples at different heat seal temperatures are shown in Table 1 .

From the test results, under the same test conditions, the hot tack strength of the sample is significantly lower than the heat seal strength, that is, the bond fastness of the heat seal portion of the sample before cooling is lower than the bond fastness after cooling, which is The molecules of the heat seal layer material before uncooling have not been fixed and are more susceptible to deformation. Therefore, in the actual production process, attention should be paid to the testing of the hot-adhesive strength of packaging materials, especially the production mode of filling immediately after heat-sealing the bag to prevent the heat-sealing from being filled due to the low heat-bonding strength of the package. The product is damaged under the impact of the impact, affecting the sealing performance of the package, and even breaking the bag.

Test results show four different sealing temperature, heat seal strength of the sample at 100 zui and hot tack strength are low, when the heat seal strength and 115 are zui high hot tack strength, reduce the intensity of 120 deg.] C, and The sample shrinks, which indicates that the values of the two test indexes show the same increase and then decrease with the increase of the heat seal temperature. The test values and the flat sample surface where the heat seal strength and hot tack strength of the overall judgment, on PE 40 μm film sample for this test, ZUI suitable heat-sealing temperature range 110 ~ 115 ℃.

4 , the conclusion

Heat sealing strength and hot tack strength are important indicators related to air leakage and bag breakage at the soft plastic packaging seal. From the comparison test of the two indexes of 40 μm PE film samples, the basic test process of the two, The test results showed the same trend with the heat seal temperature change, while the heat seal strength and the hot bond strength test time were different, and under the same heat seal parameters, the hot bond strength was significantly lower than the heat seal strength.
